The Royal Mile is a nickname for the main street of Edinburgh's old town. The Royal Mile stretched from Edinburgh Castle up the hill down to Holyrood Palace. Due to its unique geological structure, the royal mile has streets and alleys going down both sides of the road. They are called Closes (streets that used to have gates) and Wynds. Today the street is very colorful, full of Museums, tourist shops, restaurants, pubs, and other visitors' attractions. Many travel agencies have kind of street offices here, and you can always hear the bagpipes play.
